Power flushing in your area
Power flushing cleans sludge, rust and scale out of a central heating system using a pump and cleaning chemicals. Hepta carries it out in your area for cold radiators, noisy boilers and slow heating. Call 07477 877199 or use the form and we will explain whether a flush will help your system.
What it covers
Over time, heating water breaks down the iron in radiators and pipes and creates a thick black sludge. It settles at the bottom of radiators and clogs pipes and the boiler. The result is cold patches, noisy running and a boiler that works harder than it should.
A power flush reverses that. A powerful pump circulates water and cleaning chemicals through the system, radiator by radiator, loosening and removing debris. It is often done alongside a boiler replacement so the new boiler starts with a clean system.
- Flushing the whole system radiator by radiator
- Cleaning chemicals suited to the condition of the system
- Testing flow and temperature after the flush
- Fitting a magnetic system filter
- Inhibitor added to protect against future corrosion
- Flushing before a new boiler is fitted
When to call
- Radiators that are cold at the bottom or in the middle
- A boiler that is noisy or keeps overheating
- Black or brown water when you bleed a radiator
- Heating that is slow to warm up
How it goes
- Step 1
We check the system and test the condition of the water.
- Step 2
We connect the flushing machine and circulate cleaner.
- Step 3
We flush each radiator in turn until the water runs clear.
- Step 4
We add inhibitor, fit a filter if agreed, and test the system.

Questions about power flushing
Not here? Call 07477 877199 and ask.
Cold areas at the bottom of radiators, black water when bleeding, a noisy boiler and slow heating are the usual signs. We look at the system and water condition to confirm before recommending a flush.
Properly done, it should not. But very old or heavily corroded radiators may already be weak, and cleaning can reveal a leak. We assess the condition first and tell you the risk before we start.
It is often a good idea. Debris from an old system can damage a new boiler. Flushing, then fitting a filter and inhibitor, protects the new boiler and helps the whole system run better.
A magnetic filter is fitted near the boiler to catch iron debris circulating in the system. It protects the boiler and pump, and needs little upkeep. We recommend one after any flush.
It depends on the number of radiators and how dirty the system is. We explain how long we expect to need when we have looked at the system, and plan the day so you know what to expect.
We are based in Epsom and cover Epsom, Ewell, Ashtead, Leatherhead, Banstead, Cheam, Sutton and Worcester Park, along with Stoneleigh, Esher, Chessington, Cobham, Surbiton, Kingston upon Thames, New Malden, Carshalton, Wallington, Purley, Coulsdon, Reigate, Redhill, Croydon, Morden and Wimbledon. Each of those has its own page for power flushing, and you can also send us your town through the contact form.
Feel which radiators are cold and where on the radiator the cold patch sits. Bleed any that need it and note whether the water that comes out is clean or dark.
Which radiators are cold, the age of the system and boiler, whether any radiators have been replaced, and whether a new boiler is planned.
Sludge is caused by corrosion inside the system, made worse by air, old water and the lack of inhibitor. Unfiltered systems collect it fastest.
